London's Imperial College has received a £ million donation from a grateful alumnus, Gary Tanaka, a US technology investment manager. The donation is one of the largest ever made to a European University.

The world has been fooled into hailing a skeleton unearthed in Florence Cathedral as that of Giotto, the father of European painting, it has been claimed by Franklin Toker, professor of art and architecture at the University of Pittsburgh.

A ten-year study by researchers from the Institute of Archaeology in London and from the University of Bonn has revealed the long-lost history of the Maya, one of the world's most mysterious ancient civilisations.
