Vice-chancellors are likely to spend more than a third of their time on fundraising by 2010, the principal of Aberdeen University predicts. Duncan Rice, speaking at this week's CASE-HEERA conference at Westminster University for higher education external relations staff, said the phenomenon of the bulk of funding coming from the state was "almost a historical aberration". Attitudes were now shifting towards a giving culture, and it was up to the new generation of vice-chancellors to promote this. Aberdeen has launched a campaign to raise Pounds 150 million over ten years, with a target of Pounds 40 million before 2002.
