Cambridge University has awarded annual Pilkington teaching prizes to: Colin Burrow , English; Donald Laming , experimental psychology; Dominic Scott , philosophy; Lisa Hall , Institute of Biotechnology; Quentin Skinner , history; Solomos Solomou , economics and politics; Catherine Clarke , astronomy; Robert Hunt , applied mathematics and theoretical physics; Hugh Hunt , engineering; and Richard Prager , engineering.
At Cambridge , vice-chancellor Sir Alec Broers and Tony Wrigley , master of Corpus Christi College, have been elected to the American Philosophical Society . Andy Fabian , professor in the Institute of Astronomy, has been awarded this year's Bruno Rossi Prize by the American Astronomical Society. Jeffery Lewins , former lecturer in charge of nuclear engineering, has been awarded the Arthur Holly Compton Award . Veronique Mottier , from the faculty of social and political sciences, has received the annual Jubileum Prize from the Swiss Academy of Social and Human Sciences. Andrew Balmford , from the department of zoology, has been awarded the Zoological Society of London Marsh Award for Conservation Biology .
Keele University has awarded honorary degrees to: Rodney Bickerstaff , president of the National Pensioners' Convention and former general secretary of Unison (DUniv); Michael Goodchild , professor of geography at the University of California, Santa Barbara (DSc); Bernard Price , chief executive of Staffordshire County Council (LLD); Joan Stringer , principal and vice-patron of Queen Margaret University College, Edinburgh (DLitt).
The Arts Institute at Bournemouth has awarded honorary fellowships to: former student and Turner Prize winner Wolfgang Tillmans ; cinematographer Oswald Morris ; Michael Harvey , typographer, stone mason and adviser to the Royal Mint.
