Male and transgender sex work in the UK and the Netherlands
Dr Smith will carry out in-depth interviews with male and transgender sex workers from the UK and the Netherlands and analyse existing policy and academic material, in order to compare the economic, political and cultural context of this form of sex work in the two countries. Despite growing numbers of male and transgender sex workers, previous studies have focused on female workers, with women assumed to provide the supply of sex and men the demand for it. Dr Smith will consider how these sex workers' experiences are shaped by political, economic and cultural contexts, and examine how academic and policy paradigms may be reframed.
