A cluster randomised controlled trial of the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of an obesity prevention intervention in primary school age children
Obesity levels are rising in the UK, with 10 per cent of six year olds now classed as obese. Dr Adab will conduct research with 2,700 school-aged children in the West Midlands to examine the effects of a one-year intervention package aimed at modifying dietary and physical activity levels via changes implemented at school and community level. In assessing its cost-effectiveness, the team will consider training needed for teachers, participants and their families, and will undertake follow-up examinations with the children for at least two years.
