Halton principal and deputy resign

Halton College principal Martin Jenkins and his deputy, Jenny Dolphin, have resigned citing ill-health. Both were seriously criticised last week in reports by the National Audit Office and the Further Education Funding Council, which revealed that the college had wrongly claimed Pounds 6.4 million of public money. The report condemned the pair's excessive junkets and expenses. Welcoming the resignations, the National Union of Students has called on ministers to give greater powers of intervention to the FEFC.
