Alumna to be proud of No 156 is proof of the efficacy of the US college intern system. Monica Lewinsky, who is alleged to have had an affair with President Bill Clinton, has accounted for more than 99 per cent of the press mentions accorded to Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon, since its establishment in 1867.
The college has been besieged by journalists hungry for remembrances of Ms Lewinsky (Time magazine emailed 51 alumni) and by prosecutors after documents she allegedly forged there to help a friend collect unemployment benefits. Journalists are especially curious about reports that Ms Lewinsky had an affair while at the college with a married teacher (not on the college staff) eight years her senior.
Lewis and Clark points out that among its other graduates are Ahmad al Badi, former president of the World Health Organisation, and Ireland peace negotiator Donald Johnson.
