Hull University this week unveiled its plans for a medical school for mature students which could be up and running by 2001. The plan, put forward as part of the government's call for universities to increase medical school intakes by 1,000 students a year, is for an accelerated four-year programme for 100 mature students a year. Science graduates would enter directly into year one, while non-science graduates and mature students without degrees would be expected to take prior foundation courses.
