Leading scientists and policy-makers have taken part in a symposium that will help to map out the future for large-scale research infrastructure in Europe. Major facilities such as Cern, the world's largest particle- physics laboratory, require years of financial, legal and political planning before they are built. Delegates at the three-day event, Realising and Managing International Research Infrastructures, which was held at Imperial College London earlier this month, explored ways to construct future facilities more efficiently.
