Screenwriter Frank Cottrell Boyce was among those reading from some of Charles Dickens's most famous works in a re-enactment last week of the 'The Penny Readings', organised by the University of Liverpool's Reader magazine. Dickens famously recited extracts from A Christmas Carol and other works in 1858 at Liverpool's Philharmonic Hall and St George's Hall, charging just a penny entrance fee to enable all social classes to attend.
