Brussels, 23 Apr 2003

An international symposium on sustainable urban development concepts will take place from 14 to 16 May in Kronsberg, Hanover, Germany.

Kronsberg is a fine example of a sustainable urban area, integrating high environmental and energy standards in its buildings. The main aim of the event is to disseminate information on the Kronsberg experience across Europe. To this end, the event will include two technical visits to the urban area.

The symposium on the Kronsberg experience is part of the EU project 'seeing is believing as a replication tool' (SIBART). The project is funded under the DG transport ALTENER programme, promoting the use of renewable energy sources. The main aim of the project is the dissemination of good building practices, financing schemes and energy codes, as well as the development of social awareness and acceptance of sustainable urban development concepts.

Other European sustainable development experiences, as well as the new European 'sustainable communities' support programme will also be presented at the event.

The symposium is intended for town planners, local authorities and architects, especially those who have attended the local workshops organised as part of the project.
