Brussels, 11 Feb 2003
Madrid is to host the tenth world congress and exhibition on intelligent transport systems (ITS) and services from 16 to 20 November 2003.
The event aims to promote awareness and the effective deployment of intelligent transport systems and services. It will also provide an optimal focal point for networking and creating business opportunities between players that are committed to investing in ITS.
'Intelligent Transport Systems can pave the way for solutions to many of the daily transport problems [...] Public authorities, industry and other stakeholders must strive to find common solutions to common problems, and new knowledge and deployment of ITS are important tools,' said Erkki Liikanen, European Commissioner for Enterprise and Information Society.
With this in mind, the event will consist of plenary as well as perspective sessions where top level industry executives and public representatives will be present to share their knowledge and experience of the development of ITS.
Selected presentations by international experts will address issues ranging from technical aspects to implementation experiences as well as the economic, societal and organisational aspects of ITS.
Alongside exhibitions and technical visits, participants will have opportunities to gain insight into ITS by taking part in special sessions with ITS experts.
The event is being organised by the European ITS non-profit organisation (ERTICO) in cooperation with the City of Madrid, the European Commission, ITS America and ITS Japan.
