Demand for computer-science graduates is increasing at almost twice the rate of demand for other graduates. Data from the Higher Education Careers Services Unit reveals that job vacancies for graduates with information technology qualifications increased by 22.3 per cent between 1995 and 1996, compared to an overall rise in graduate vacancies of 9.5 per cent.
The analysis of more than 7,800 graduate vacancies, advertised over two years in graduate vacancy magazine Prospects Today, also found that more than three-quarters of those completing full-time single-honours courses in computing found work within six months of graduating, compared to three-fifths of those holding other degrees.
