Welsh college students are being "short-changed" because of a lack of investment in the improvement of standards, according to Chris Hughes, the chief executive of the Further Education Development Agency. Addressing the Association of College Managers' annual meeting at Newport this week, Mr Hughes said that compared with England - which has a Pounds 115 million standards fund - Wales "has too few initiatives to improve standards". He called on the Welsh Assembly to "close the growing gap".
