OU opposes limits on bursaries
The Open University in Scotland has condemned the Scottish Executive’s plans to limit mature students’ bursaries to full-time students. In a submission to today’s meeting of the Scottish Parliament’s enterprise and lifelong learning committee, the OU says there must be equal treatment for all students.

UMIST e-commerce conference showcases R&D
The third International E-Commerce Conference started at UMIST today amid concerns that companies have yet to fully exploit information technologies. The conference, which was inaugurated by UMIST and runs until Thursday, will showcase universities' research and development.

Unison addresses Connexions concerns
Public sector union Unison will hold a seminar in London this week to address concerns that the government’s new guidance service for young people is being introduced too hastily. Unison fears that personal advisers under the Connexions service will have to advise on complex issues such as health as well as giving traditional careers guidance.
