Lecturers get jobs back

六月 20, 1997

Two London Guildhall University lecturers sacked last year have been reinstated following an appeal to the governors, writes Huw Richards.

Senior lecturer Pat Brady won his appeal against being declared redundant later this year and the university chose to reinstate senior lecturer Geraldine Thorpe, whose appeal was on parallel grounds. The sackings of Justina Henderson and David Lane were upheld.

Roderick Floud, provost of LGU, said: "We have to accept the decision of the governors that there were flaws in the process. The adjudication made it clear that our redundancy procedures were fair, but there were particular circumstances in Mr Brady's case which might have made the decisions unsafe."

He said the decisions did not threaten university financial recovery plans, which are on target.

Mr Brady was represented by the Council for Academic Freedom and Academic Standards.
