Threat of state execution has little effect on suicide rates among murder suspects. A study by Sam Cameron, a researcher at Bradford University's department of social and economic studies, shows the number of suspected murderers who took their own lives between 1900 and 1949 in England and Wales was little affected by highs and lows in the number of state executions.
Yet, in times of high unemployment, the number of suicides did increase, according to the study of 1,540 suicides among murder suspects.
