Paul Mackney, general secretary of Natfhe, has condemned the "daylight robbery" of thousands of lecturers and researchers on fixed-term contracts.
He said the government's Fairness at Work white paper "provides many opportunities but it does not solve the problems". Redundancy rights could still be waived and rights to unfair dismissal still needed one year's service. Lecturers also needed "a clear and unambiguous" extension of employment rights for agency workers.
