CORDIS, the European Commission's Research and Development Information Service, has launched a dedicated service for research and specific support actions on non-nuclear energy issues.

The new service, part of the Sixth Framework Programme (FP6) portal, offers central access to background information and funding opportunities (810 million euro is available), as well as direct links aimed at supporting the submission of proposals and project management.

Users can quickly access information on news and events, review short-to-medium or medium-to-long term targets, identify support, and consult publications and useful links. In addition, this service offers easy access to the details of over 1,000 organisations wishing to participate in environmental research. It also offers links to more than 600 previous projects in the fields of global change, renewable energies and new energy sources.

The service provides timely information and will highlight upcoming activities, or newly funded projects as soon as information becomes available. It also highlights the contributions that research in this field are making to key political objectives intimately linked with the quality of life of European citizens.

These include greenhouse gas emissions, energy carriers, alternative motor fuels and new emerging technologies. http://www.cordis.lu/sustdev/energy/home .html
