A law firm has joined forces with Northumbria University Law School to develop a new course to train future lawyers on the job. The Solicitors Regulation Authority is attempting to widen access to the profession by offering training through work-based learning, and Northumbria has been chosen to trial a new five-year law degree, working with the firm Irwin Mitchell. The new master of law course combines undergraduate legal education and the content of the Legal Practice Course, which is normally taught at postgraduate level, with a new training contract that allows students to study while on placement with the firm.
