Obama to make “free community college” proposal

US president promises two years of free higher education for “everyone willing to work for it”

US president Barack Obama is to unveil plans that would see two years of community college study available free to “everyone willing to work for it”.

In a speech to be delivered in Tennessee later today, described by Mr Obama as a “preview to the State of the Union [address]” to be made on 20 January, the president will give further details on the proposal which he says will “make sure that community college is accessible for everyone”.

The president’s announcement, made on the Whitehouse YouTube page, can be viewed on the video above.
