Ray Donnelly, founder and chairman of the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, has been appointed Liverpool John Moores University professor of lung cancer studies.
Professor John Bynner, director of the social statistics research unit at City University. will join the Institute of Education as director of the new centre for longitudinal studies next month. He will bring to the institute the 1958 and 1970 British birth cohort studies, which include data on every child born in a certain week in those years.
At the institute's centre for longitudinal studies Bynner will be joined by Professor Heather Joshi, the deputy director of City University's statistics unit.
John Hinnells, who held professorships at the University of Manchester and School of African and Oriental Studies, has been appointed by the University of Derby as research professor in comparative religion. His speciality is Zoroastrian religion.
