Openness may be a watchword for the Labour government, but this welcome transparency seems slow to spread to other parts of the Labour Party machine. For instance, just ask the Labour Students organisation to talk about their views and policies on student support.

The THES tried it out at this week's conference and was told by president Ellie Reeves that she could not comment until the government published the results of its review of student support, due in November. Asked whether Labour Students had a policy on student support, Ms Reeves replied: "Yes, but not one I can talk about."
