Psychologists at Aberdeen University have found that students shown photos of members of the opposite sex digitally altered to look like them found the faces trustworthy but not lustworthy. Lisa DeBruine, visiting researcher, said this backed the view that while people trust relatives, they shun them sexually to avoid inbreeding. But Dr DeBruine said it was difficult to reconcile the findings with the fact that many couples, such as Brad Pitt and Jennifer Anniston and Anita Dobson and Brian May, look like each other. The research is published in Proceedings of the Royal Society of London, Biological Series.
