Researchers at UMIST have been awarded Pounds 175,000 for work aimed at developing a treatment for highly polluting liquid that accumulates in landfill sites. The liquid waste contains high levels of organic and nitrogenous materials.

The contract has been placed by Manchester-based National Centre for Business and Ecology and will be undertaken by researchers at the departments of biomolecular sciences and chemical engineering.
