(Photograph) - Better deal: An end to postgraduate fees was one demand made by thousands of protesting Australian university students in national demonstrations last month. They also demanded a return to free post-school education and accused the government of back-tracking on a pledge not to introduce undergraduate tuition fees after one university imposed fees despite criticism from higher education minister Simon Crean. Around 30,000 students across the country held rallies or marched on state parliaments calling for increased spending on universities, and scrapping of planned increases in Higher Education Contribution Scheme charges
