Queen Mary, University of London - The Woolworths triangle

The locations of the now-defunct Woolworths chain of stores have been found to form "precise geometric patterns" by a researcher at Queen Mary, University of London. Matt Parker, of the School of Mathematical Sciences, studied the stores' distribution after seeing research claiming that prehistoric sites were aligned with such sophistication that "extraterrestrial help" could not be ruled out. He found that three Woolworths stores in Wolverhampton, Lichfield and Birmingham formed an exact equilateral triangle. He said: "It is mathematically known that if you have a sufficiently large set of random data, you can find any pattern you want with any given level of accuracy."
