Rector to the rescue

Glasgow University students, who have called for the resignation of their elected rector, actor Ross Kemp, must be looking enviously at St Andrews.

The students are annoyed at Mr Kemp's absence, but St Andrews' rector, Andrew Neil, publisher of Scotsman Publications, is not so reclusive. St Andrews students were appalled by a local licensing board decision to revoke the union's late licence. But help is on the way. The Scotsman reports that Mr Neil will fly in to monitor the situation.
