Michael Driscoll, vice-chancellor of Middlesex University, is to take part in his first London marathon in April to raise money for the university's scholarship fund. Professor Driscoll aims to raise a £1,000 scholarship for each of the 26 miles.

The vice-chancellor may also be trying to keep one step ahead of The THES 's Whistleblower, a veteran of the Great North Run, and dogged pursuer of any allegations of difficulties at the university.
