Paisley University and Ayr College are collaborating with South Ayrshire Council to set up a Scottish "Fame school" for the music industry. The Pounds 10 million project is the brainchild of local musician Benny Gallagher, formerly of Gallagher and Lyle, and aims to foster both musicians and managers. The School of Music and Recording Technology is expected to be set up by the year 2000, straddling further and higher education with courses ranging from Higher National Certificate to degree level.
Neither institution has a financial commitment to the project, and fundraising is expected to focus on the National Lottery, the European Regional Development Fund and the music industry.
