Scots announce research awards

* Research investment worth more than Pounds 4 million could aid the Scottish economy. The successful bids for the awards were announced by the Scottish Higher Education Funding Council.

SHEFC was advised by Scottish Enterprise to grant an award to Edinburgh University for the Cosmic project, which is developing an industry based on linking biological systems to electronic circuitry.

Glasgow will get an award for a nanoanalytical electron microscope and research into environmentally friendly processes in the chemical industry. To be accepted, the proposals had to demonstrate that they met the needs of the Scottish economy.
