Women comprise more than 55 per cent of Scotland's higher education students, according to Scottish Executive figures. The percentage of female students has risen from 49 per cent in 1994-95. The number of full-time male students has fallen from 60,410 to 59,624. Female numbers have soared from 58,052 to 72,476. The number of part-time male students has risen from 14,4 to 24,252. Female numbers have more than doubled to 31,029.
