Following last year's fire at City University, vice-chancellor David Rhind has become one of the select band of university bosses who toil in an open-plan office, coping without his now-vanished outer and inner offices in favour of a desk behind some screens.
City research reveals that about three vice-chancellors are operating this way. Rhind's only complaint is that the place is too quiet. He plans to bring in more administrators to up the excitement level.
