Relief for Ken Edwards, vice chancellor of the University of Leicester. The chance of his becoming higher education's answer to JFK has eased somewhat after a failed appeal to the city's Crown Court by Ann Dornier, a former archaeology lecturer at the university, to get her shotgun licence back. A witness appeared alleging that she had threatened to shoot both Edwards and her former head of department. Dornier was dismissed from the university in 1991 and her appeal against the dismissal was rejected in 1994. According to the Leicester Mercury, the police told the licence hearing that she has an "obsessive fixation with her continuing fight against her dismissal."
