Shortlisted bidders for the second government sale of Pounds 1 billion worth of student loan debt were announced this week.
They are: Barclays Capital, a consortium of Deutsche Bank and the Nationwide Building Society, and Greenwich NatWest, the successful bidder in the last sale, which was completed in March. Final bids from the shortlisted candidates will have to be submitted in January 1999 and the sale should be completed by March. A further sale of around Pounds 2 billion of debt will take place in the next financial year.
