The IT facilities and annual spend on information provision per full-time student vary dramatically between universities, according to statistics in The Student Book 2001.

Cranfield has an annual expenditure of Pounds 409 per full-time student with a ratio of 1:2 workstations to students, whereas Nottingham Trent University has an annual expenditure of Pounds 62 per full-time student and a ratio of 1:105.

Internet access also varies widely. The universities of Reading (5,000 access points), Middlesex (3,000) and Bradford (2,000) contrast with Bangor (160) and Central England (14).
