Study contract on consumption of ozone-depleting substances

四月 1, 2002

Brussels, 28 March 2002

The Environment DG of the European Commission has issued a call for tenders for a study contract on the consumption of ozone-depleting substances (ODSs) by laboratories in the EU and ODS alternatives. The study contract will also cover the supply and demand of CFCs in developing countries and whether a temporary exemption is justified for the continued use of CFCs by some military services in the European Community.

The study contract, in the area of ozone layer protection, comprises three parts:

1) to determine the amount of ODSs that are used for laboratory purposes in the EC and non-ODS alternatives that can substitute for these uses;

2) to determine the supply and demand of CFCs in developing countries with a view to determining the quantity appropriate to meet their current and future needs; and

3) to determine whether a temporary exemption can be technically and economically justified for the continued use of CFCs by some military services in the European Community.
