Brussels, 22 July 2002
The European Commission's Research DG has published a prior information notice for a call for tenders for a study on codes of practice for ethics in research.
The European Commission intends to launch an invitation to tender within the framework of the European research area (ERA) and the implementation of the science and society action plan ethics committees.
Codes of practice are key elements to be taken into account in the professional work of scientists. They refer to the deontological obligations of professional associations (physicians, researchers, geneticists, etc). In the light of the ERA, The Sixth Framework programme (FP6) and the science and society action plan, the contract will contribute to the monitoring of current codes being adopted at EU level and promote best codes of practice across Europe. This is the goal of FP6 and the action plan, where it is stated that RTD (research and technological development) policies have to be linked to ethical principles stated in the European Charter of Fundamental Rights. The contract will contribute to such a goal.
The estimated value for this procurement is 60,000 EUR.
