A summer school on mesoscale meteorology will take place from 7 to 11 June 2004 in Alghero, Italy.
The aim of the course is to acquaint students and young scientists with a range of topics classified as 'mesoscale meteorology', and to present recent advances on regional scale weather systems.
Mesoscale meteorology encompasses phenomena such as jet streaks, fronts, mid-latitude cyclones, tropical cyclones, thunderstorms, tornadoes, and heavy precipitation, which may cause flash floods. A number of projects are currently underway on the study and prediction of these phenomena, the results of which may advance weather forecasting.
The course will address the dynamic and physical aspects of the phenomena, with a particular emphasis on the problems relating to the interaction of different spatial and time scales.
