Athletes studying in Scotland will be able to combine academic studies with a rigorous training schedule following the launch of a sports scholarship programme. A total of £20,000 will be invested by The Robert Gordon University to help fund potential Olympians through their studies. The students will be awarded up to £2,000 a year, with each receiving sports coaching, nutrition guidance and subsidised accommodation. The first 15 recipients include Hannah Miley, who set a British record when she won gold in the 400 metres at the European Short Course Swimming Championships in Istanbul last year.
