The University for Industry name is "misleading" and too reminscent of "old-style socialism", says the Professional Association of Teachers' further and higher education committee.
The committee, which met at the weekend, said UfI was neither a university nor purely for industry. PAT tertiary education officer Tony Thompson said:
"Lifelong learning is too important to be hindered by a name that will discourage those who most need learning. UfI itself must be renamed."
