Ultrasound monitors tissue damage, by gum

An ultrasound probe for monitoring gum disease is being developed by researchers at the University of William and Mary in Virginia. The device projects ultrasound into the narrow space between the teeth and the bone to identify the damaged tissue, making X-rays and painful probing unnecessary.
