University Challenge must become a rolling year-on-year programme, says Save British Science.
An SBS meeting this week looked at how to establish new spin-off companies and welcomed the new University Challenge cash injection to universities, which includes Pounds 20 million from government and Pounds 20 million from charities. But it also heard that the sum was likely to create very few new companies.
SBS director Peter Cotgreave said: "The success rate of these new companies in the US is less than one in 30. If University Challenge is going to make a long-term difference to the economy, it needs to run again I and preferably with larger sums of money."
