Nick Griffin, the leader of the British National Party, has been voted the worst former student of the University of Cambridge in a poll by a student newspaper. The right-wing MEP topped the survey run by The Tab with 44 per cent of the vote. Mr Griffin responded by claiming that voters had been "swayed by the follies of the left wing". He added: "Alastair Campbell (Tony Blair's former press secretary) deserved to win." Natalie Szarek, Cambridge University Students' Union's women's officer, came second in the poll, with 20 per cent of the vote.
