The old adage that breakfast is the most important meal of the day has been proven by scientists working on improving the health of British children. Academics at the University of Essex found that children who skipped breakfast were less active than those who did not. The study looked at the fitness, physical activity, weight and breakfast habits of more than 4,000 children and found that a quarter of boys and a third of girls regularly went to school without eating breakfast. The findings suggest that the lower physical activity in breakfast-skippers may be having a knock-on effect, as they were twice as likely as others to be obese.
