A new £32 million library at the University of Leicester has been opened by the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh. The library, the centrepiece of the university's £1 billion development plan, is double the size of the previous building and has already won a clutch of awards. Bob Burgess, the vice-chancellor, said: "The light, the architectural design and the furniture are all excellent ... It really does have a 'wow factor'." The library was remodelled from a facility built in 1975.
