A novel approach to improving staff welfare - hypnosis - is being offered by the University of Leicester. The local Staff Counselling and Welfare Service has invited a hypnotherapist to address interested staff later this month on the technique's use in controlling stress, anxiety and lack of confidence and self-esteem. Topics covered will include a definition of hypnosis and hypnotherapy, how and why it works, and what control the hypnotist has. Staff who want to be "reassured that it does work before (they) pay out hard-earned cash" are encouraged to attend, but the Staff Counselling and Welfare Service's communique is quick to point out that no one will actually be subjected to the technique at the initial information session.
