Parents should get their children to use toothpaste that contains at least 1,000 parts of fluoride per million, a study from dentists at the University of Manchester says. Researchers for the Cochrane Oral Health Group, based at Manchester's School of Dentistry, have previously shown that fluoride toothpastes reduce dental decay by 24 per cent on average compared with non-fluoride products. The group's latest research, which involved trials on 73,000 children worldwide, examined the effect of different pastes and found that those with fluoride concentrations of less than 1,000 parts per million were only as effective as non-fluoride alternatives.
