A UK university is partnering an Iraqi institution to set up a centre for research in the built environment - with the aim of aiding the country's reconstruction. The University of Salford will help the University of Basra to create its own research expertise, tailored to the needs of the Iraqi construction sector. Mustafa Alshawi, associate dean (international) at Salford's College of Science and Technology, said: "Iraq has some very specific needs from its built-environment sector, and there are some areas where it lacks expertise and critical mass."
