An hourly paid lecture has lost the second round of her legal case against the University of Sheffield for unfair treatment as a part-time worker. Kaye Carl, a shorthand tutor, won the right to be treated as an employee rather than a self-employed contractor, but a tribunal dismissed her claim that the university treated her unfavourably in terms of pay compared with full-time staff. The university had already agreed to allow her paid annual leave and to pay pension contributions. After the ruling last week, a Sheffield spokesman said: "The university is satisfied with this outcome but wishes to move on from this and looks forward to a positive and constructive working relationship with Kaye Carl."
